NEW PROJECTS:                                                                                                          At the end of 2004 the joint venture of Schiavone Construction Co., Inc., J. F. Shea Construction, Inc. and Frontier-Kemper Constructors, Inc. was awarded the largest project in our company's history by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection.   Contract 538C, in the amount of $668,643,680, consists of excavation and lining of the Manhattan portion of the City Tunnel No. 3, Stage 2 and the construction of nine (9) shafts and associated distribution chambers, as well as the completion of Shaft 26B and its distribution chamber.  The new tunnel will be approximately 5.2 miles in length, and excavated to approximately 12'-6" diameter where it abuts the previously excavated section at Shaft 26B under Contract 538B (SCC/Frontier-Kemper/Shea, JV).  The entire Manhattan Tunnel will be lined with concrete including the 3.5 miles of tunnel excavated under Contract 538B.  The completion date is set for July 2009.

For the first half of 2005 the Joint Venture of Schiavone Construction Co., Inc. and Granite Halmar Construction Co., Inc. was awarded Design-Build Contract A-35976 by New City Transit and consists of the design and construction of the new South Ferry Terminal Subway Station in the amount of $261,000,000.  The construction will include station platform and mezzanine levels, was well as the approach tunnel and tie-in to the existing tunnel totaling 1,600 linear feet of supported excavation with temporary decking during construction.  The existing active subway station, which will be replaced by the new station, will remain in service during construction and require extensive underpinning including two additional existing, active subway tunnels.  Temporary decking will be installed so as to minimize construction impacts to the existing street traffic and walkways adjacent to Battery Park.  Along with Schiavone Engineering Group, the two main Design Engineers are Vollmer Associates, LLP and Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers.
