C-26503 Construction of Running Tunnels and Station Structures,
# 7 Flushing Line Extension
This
is the second largest contract awarded in the Metropolitan
Area at $1,144,955,900, for New York City Transit/MTA Capital
Construction. Work is being performed by S3 II Tunnel Constructors,
a Joint Venture, consisting of managing partner, J. F. Shea
Construction Inc., and partners Skanska Civil USA Northeast
and Schiavone.
This
contract consists of constructing two 22 foot diameter tunnels,
approximately 6,000 feet each in length, excavated utilizing
two (2) double-shielded tunnel boring machines and lined with
pre-cast concrete segmental liners; starter and tail tunnels
approximately 380 feet in length, excavated using conventional
mining methods and lined with cast-in-place concrete, and
three (3) shafts over 100 feet deep. Schiavone personnel will
be directly involved in the overall management of the entire
project and field personnel will mainly focus on the mining
and constructing of the 34th Street Station cavern structure
approximately 1,200 feet long x 66 feet wide and 66 feet high.
